John Martyn Haenke was a prolific German-English-American architect. He was a member of the Burlingame Country Club and friends with the Hearst family.

Julia Morgan was employed by the Hearst’s as assistant architect for the Examiner building.

The initial building permits were given to Haenke & Dodd and Julia Morgan. William Dodd was not involved in the design of the building.
